03feb7:30 pmBach: St. Matthew Passionwith the Choeur Classique de Montreal and Ensemble Sinfonia Montreal

Event Details

When Bach sets one of the world’s best-known stories to music, a monumental and quasi-theatrical work is presented to listeners.

Imbued with piety as well as emotional power and dramatic effect, the St Matthew Passion is a masterpiece of polyphonic and contrapuntal music, a narrative whose characters appear in succession and question each other, and where the two choirs by turns join forces, then ignore or complement each other.

The Chœur classique de Montréal, well known to classical music lovers who frequent the Maison symphonique, once again presents an exceptional concert in keeping with its reputation for excellence.

 Conducted by Louis Lavigueur

Evangelist : Jacques-Olivier Chartier, tenor; Jesus : Hugo Laporte, baritone; Myriam Leblanc, soprano; Michael Taylor, countertenor;  Jean-Philippe Fortier-Lazure, tenor; Daniel Lichti, bass.
