It’s the birthday of art: on January 17, it will be officially 1,000,055 yers old, and it’s all thanks to the Fluxus artist Robert Filliou. He founded ‘Art’s Birthday’ in 1963, a global party with performances, exhibitions and concerts.
The Lithuanian composer Arturas Bumšteinas has set the founding document of Art’s Birthday to music. In Whispered History of Art, Robert Filliou turned everything thought to be known about art on its head. Following the attitude of the Fluxus Movement, he derives its genesis from the everyday: a sponge lands in a bucket of water, a baker bakes bread, a river flows and a man contemplates – the birth of art from the spirit of the present moment. Arturas Bumšteinas places Filliou’s text in the voices of Berlin’s Solistenensemble PHØNIX16.
Presented by Ultraschall Berlin – Festival für neue Musik.
